Green Coffee Update: Rwanda KivuBelt Lot 1

Hi all,

This is the last week to purchase yourself a bag of this coffee. It will be available in-store only at our 10055 80th Avenue location. We purchased all thirty sacs available to Lot 1 in December 2020. Rwanda coffees generally land between December and March.

We have plenty of coffees to showcase this summer - a lot of exciting single-origin coffees. The release dates of these coffees will be delayed due to shipping conditions affecting the global economy.

Meanwhile, here is the information on our Rwanda coffee we feature over the last six months:

Soil: Volcanic loam

BACKGROUND DETAILS

Rwanda Kivubelt Murundo is sourced from family owned farms organized around Kivubelt Coffee, which owns several farms and a mill located in the Nyamasheke district of Rwanda. Furaha Umwizey, who was born and raised in Rwanda, established Kivubelt in 2008 after returning from Switzerland where she earned her master's degree in economics. Kivubelt currently cultivates coffee on three farms and also sources coffee from 600 neighboring small producers, who deliver cherry to the Murundo mill where the coffee is depulped, fermented, washed and dried. Kivubelt helps local producers improve quality and returns profits directly to the producers who deliver coffee to the Murundo mill. Furaha has also dedicated Kivubelt’s earnings to funding healthcare for more than 200 local residents.

We plan to purchase coffee again this December 2021.
